Thrust Roller Bearing

Bearing Types: Double Row, Taper Lock and Thrust Roller Bearing

There are many types of bearings which constitute significant parts of any machinery in this world. Without their presence, it becomes quite impossible for the machine to exist longer because of the two major functions performed by bearings. The primary role of any bearing would be to permit rotation between two other parts of the machinery. The second important function is to reduce the friction between the same.

By executing the aforesaid two jobs effectively, it becomes a great contribution for the smooth functioning of the overall piece of equipment. In other words, usage of bearings is inevitable in majority of the machines in the world in order to be helpful in their efficient and effective use. At the same time, with the variety of purposes available for several types of gadgets across the globe, different types of bearings also are present in the market.

Structure of a Double Row Taper Roller Bearing

In a commonly found scenario, a bearing would constitute of a single row of rolling elements in it, which supports its main functions. These could be placed in a cage-like appearance or otherwise, within the space between the two raceways. However, a double row taper roller bearing is one of those which are designed differently to suit the relevant purposes uncommon to several gadgets.

Such a bearing consists of rolling elements which are tapered forms of small cylinders. These are placed within both the raceways in such a manner that a total of two rows of these rollers could be seen in the structure of this bearing. Such a design enables a high load carrying capacity by these kinds of bearings, making it suitable for both the axial as well as radial loads.

Taper Lock Bearing and Thrust Roller Bearing

Certain parts of machineries are required to be tightened at some surfaces or to other parts of the same pieces of equipment. In most of such cases, a taper lock bearing enables to serve the purpose. It basically acts as a bushing of non-flanged nature with a tapered format; utilizing screws to provide the relevant clamping between parts for tightening purpose. This type of bearing is mainly used for sheaves, pulleys and sprockets.

Among the roller bearings, there are those which fall under the category of rolling elements being placed in a cage-like appearance. Such a structure gives it the name of a thrust roller bearing and enables it to carry heavy loads as well. Due to a high axial rigidity, most of the kinds in this category can carry heavy axial loads. They are also known to have an extended service life contributing to more benefit for the machine in which they are used.
